Teacher’s rape trial postponed to May 22
KUCHING: A teacher charged with raping a 12-year-old student on two occasions at their school will have to appear before the Sessions Court again on May 22 this year for the hearing as the DPP was away on a course. On Oct 8 last year, the 51-year-old accused from Taman Sri Wangi, Petra Jaya had denied the allegations when the case was first mentioned in court. He was released on RM15,000 bail in two sureties, pending his trial hearing which was fixed for Jan 28 this year. He allegedly raped the girl on the staircase of a school in Petra Jaya at around 2pm on May 10 last year and again at 2pm at the same place on May 16.
It was claimed that these incidents occurred when the girl was attending afternoon co-curricular activities. The girl’s father — a teacher from another school — lodged a police report after his daughter complained to him about the alleged incidents. The accused was arrested on July 3 last year. Rape which comes under Section 376 of the Penal Code carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail with whipping. Counsel Abdul Rahman Mohd Hazmi represented the accused.
