Sultan in Hua Hin for Asean Summit

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday afternoon arrived in Hua Hin, Thailand to attend the 15th Asean Summit.

On arrival at the Hua Hin Airport, His Majesty was greeted by Suthep Thegsuban, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Vira Srivatanathakul, Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province and spouse as well as Jira Pongpaiboon, Mayor of Hua Hin.

Earlier, present at the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell to His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, HRH Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, HRH Prince Jefri Bolkiah and HRH Prince 'Abdul Malik.

Members of the LegCo, Cabinet Ministers and other senior government officials were also present at the airport to bid His Majesty farewell.

In Hua Hin, Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, YAM Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Hj Abdul Aziz and Dato Paduka Hj Kamis bin Hj Tamin, Ambassador of Brunei to Thailand, were also present to greet His Majesty.

The 15th Asean Summit is scheduled to start today carrying the theme "Enhancing Connectivity, Empowering People".

The heads of state and government will have the opportunity to discuss Asean's cooperation and its future direction as well as exchange views on regional and international affairs with dialogue partners from the Asia Pacific.

The Asean Summit with Dialogue Partners (Asean Related Summits) scheduled to be held October 24-25 will include separate summits for Asean and China; Asean and Japan; Asean and the Republic of Korea (ROK); Asean and the Plus Three countries; Asean and India; and the East Asia Summit (EAS).

The EAS will bring together heads of state and government of Asean, Australia, China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea and New Zealand.

A Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit will also be held on October 25.
