Pills cheap and easily bought by students
By Fitzpatrick Ricky

KUCHING: Nospan pills have been abused by teenagers, especially students, because of the ‘very low price’ of the pills in Sarawak. Besides, they can be easily bought in most pharmacies, said State Commissioner of Police Datuk Mohmad Salleh yesterday. Mohmad said the pills, which are sold as low as RM1 per pill, could cause side effects such as getting high.

The pills were widely sold, without being monitored by any agencies, he said.
“We do not deny that the abuse of Nospan pills among students in the state has been increasingly serious, but it is difficult to tackle the problem because the urine tests taken from the user show negative results.
“Moreover, those found involved in taking the drug will not be charged according to th e Dangerous Drugs Act but under the Scheduled Poisonous Act,” he pointed out when met during the handing-over of duty of Deputy State Commissioner of Police Datuk Abdul Rahman Hussin and SAC II Thaiveegan Arumugan at Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) in Jalan Badruddin here yesterday.
